Self Portrait in Red was an experimental portrait for me. In contrast to my usual flat lighting of the figure, I decided to use Photoshop to heighten the shadows on a photo of myself. This created intense chiaroscuro (contrast of black and white), which resulted in a more modern portrait. This painting focused on likeness of the subject, but its outcome was quite stylized in its bold colours, solid blacks, and elimination of detail lost in shadow.
