Ophelia was the first of my classical romantic images. I fell in love with classical art after discovering a photo of Venus de Milo. Research of this sculptural masterpiece led me into a world of art that I had not before encountered. I strived to capture a sense of classicism in my artworks, and Ophelia was my first portraiture to include these elements in pose, attire, style and colour scheme. As one of my early paintings, the painting has less attention to detail and the study of drapery on the figure. The title of this piece was inspired by the admiration of Shakespeare's Ophelia from the tragedy
Hamlet, though the painting is not meant to be of that character.
