Lion at Dawn was a commissioned piece, with the patron requesting simply a painting of a lion. I chose to portray a 'posed' portrait of the lion in a staged but natural background. This was my first piece to combine an animal with a landscape. Some research was done as a reference to the lion, while other elements were composed from my imagination to create an idealistic portrayal of the scene.
