Hesperus, the Evening Star was inspired by Pre-Raphaelite imagery, and mimics the subject matter of
Flaming June by Lord Frederick Leighton.
Hesperus was originally intended to be more a study of drapery and the figure than a finished painting in itself. In my experience, it is best to have a reference when portraying drapery rather than making it up - the cloth never seems to fall where one would suspect that it should! I chose the name Hesperus based on the mythology of Greek deities and chose to name her after the Goddess of the Evening Star.
