Black Ribbon focuses on multiple figures in an interior space, rather than the figures themselves. I researched
medieval architecture of various styles and timelines, and incorporated styles of my choosing rather than those specific to one time or place. The painting depicts perspective and detailed patterning throughout. My painting technique for
Black Ribbon was an attempt to paint on board rather than canvas in order to eliminate the canvas texture when the image was enlarged. For this, I used fellow artist
Donato Giancola's technique and had moderate success in a smooth finish.
